Rajasthan

Rajasthan is the largest state in India by area. It was first named Rajputana by George Thomas in 1800 AD. The famous historian James Tod named the state Raithan or Rajasthan in his book Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan. The state shares an international border with Pakistan, measuring 1,070 km, known as the Radcliffe Line, and a 4,850 km inter-state border connecting it to five other Indian states. To the southwest, it borders Gujarat; to the southeast, it borders Madhya Pradesh; to the north, it borders Punjab (India); and to the northeast, it borders Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The total area of the state is 342,239 square kilometers (132,140 square miles). According to the 2011 census, the literacy rate of Rajasthan is 66.1%.
